Accounted for more than 40% of the proven reserve, deepwater is becoming the new frontier for global offshore E&P activities. Meanwhile, as the oil price reached the new record high in the decade, it is further boasting the investment in deepwater E&P projects. Moreover, the characteristics of high investment, high risk and high return of deepwater projects urge the oil & gas majors to seek a more diversified portfolio and integrate their global practices. Although the “golden triangle”, namely GoM, Brazil and West Africa have claimed their significance in the oil & gas majors' global portfolio, challenges still lay ahead in areas with promising deepwater potentials. It is high time that Southeast Asia came into play.
